My name is Brendon Grindlay - Whieldon. I was born in South Africa. According to my father his mother, my grandmother was born in Scotland. As far as I know her father's name was James Grindlay. I don't know if this helps at all but I would realy like to find my roots as well.
The thing with the weird surname is my father's fault. He combined his mother and father's surnames.
