Best golf hotel
 OLD COURSE HOTEL

St Andrews, Fife, 01334 474371 www.oldcoursehotel.kohler.com

Set in the heart of St Andrews, overlooking the Old Course, where players have to aim for the legendary sign on its roof to cut the corner of the dogleg 17th with their tee shots. A stunning hotel that has recently undergone a revamp, for history, luxury and views to die for, it is hard to beat.

 GLENEAGLES HOTEL

Auchterarder, Perthshire, 0800 389 3737 www.gleneagles.com

If you are looking for tranquillity, peace and beauty beyond measure, this is for you. Imagine a setting so idyllic that all you want to do is stare at the mountains and forests for hours on end. On your doorstep are three great courses.

 MARRIOTT DALMAHOY

Kirknewton, 0800 221 222 www.marriott.co.uk

With its very own 18th century Baronial Manor, sumptuous rooms and views of Edinburgh Castle, Marriott Dalmahoy is tranquil oasis, just outside Edinburgh. Two great courses to choose from and a great PGA-approved golf academy.

 MACDONALD MARINE HOTEL & SPA

North Berwick. East Lothian, 0870 400 8129 www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/marine

Thanks to a multi-million pound investment, the Marine Hotel has been brought back to an era of grandeur and high status. Overlooking North Berwick links course, this hotel is set in the heart of golfing heaven. Within easy reach is Gullane, Dunbar, Lundin Links, Longniddry, Craigielaw, Kilspindie and many, many more of Scotland's best links courses.

 MACDONALD CARDRONA HOTEL
near Peebles, Borders, 0870 194 2114 www.macdonaldhotels.co.uk/cardrona/

Set in the heart of the Borders. The championship course, designed by Dave Thomas, is one of the country's top rated. If golfing isn't your thing, you could always try the sauna, the steam room, the gymnasium, the beauty rooms or maybe a touch of salmon fishing, archery, quad biking or abseiling. You are really not stuck for choice.

Comments

Within easy reach of Lundin Links Golf Course on the other side of the Forth? Maybe if you have your own Hovercraft or Stagecoach set up a service from North Berwick to get you there. This is the second time I've found a glaring error with an entry in Recommends so I think the facts should be checked out before a recommendation is put in print. (My previous one was about the River Tweed being "yards away" from the Greenyards in Melrose. Anyone who knew the area would find it as ridiculous as I did). Artistic Licence is one thing but something so blatantly incorrect should never have been published, and that also holds good for my comment about MMH & S.
