This site aims to provide an archive of the works of

 Sir Henry Raeburn,
Scotland's best known painter.
These works perhaps number over 1000.

The 1997 RAEBURN EXHIBITION,
held in Edinburgh in the autumn,
and then in London, at the 
National Portrait Gallery,
until 1st February, 1998,
 generated much interest,
and the Webmaster of this site has received many enquiries
regarding the painter and his works, via the web site:-

SCOTLAND'S SOURCE

The idea of having an archive of his complete works came about
as a result of an enquiry from Canada, by a descendant of a family who had their portraits painted by Raeburn in 1819.
The enquirer wanted to know where these paintings could be viewed.

This has proved to be no easy task,
as there did not appear to be a readily available list of the artist's works,
and no list of the current whereabouts of his paintings,
available to the general public.

This archive will strive to rectify both of these problems, as follows.
