![]() " HARRIET CHARLEWOOD Duchess
of Roxburghe " Oil on canvas 78 x 60 inches The Duke of Roxburghe. ( Thought to have been painted around 1812. ) Little is known of the sitter's early life before she married Sir James Innes of Innes, or Norcliffe, as he liked to called at this stage in his life. Only eight days after his first wife died, Sir James married Harriet Charlewood of Windlesham, Surrey. His claim to the Roxburghe titles was upheld by the House of Lords in 1812, when they then became the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe. After the duke died in 1823, Harriet, Duchess of Roxburghe married Lieut-Colonel Walter Frederick O'Reilly of the 41st Regiment of Foot. She was widowed again in 1844 and died in Brighton in 1855. in this Gallery Help find these
