Mrs James Campbell


" Mrs JAMES CAMPBELL "
( 1739 - 1815 )

Oil on canvas 30 x 25 inches

Private Ownership.

Little is known about Mrs Campbell, who was about 72 when she was painted.

She was said to be a cousin of
 James Watt, the famous Scottish engineer.

 She was born Marion Muirhead,
daughter of John Muirhead of Croyleckie,
 an estate near Killearn in Stirlingshire.

She married James Campbell, a merchant  in Glasgow 
( who had been born in Alloa in 1736 ).

Together, they had fifteen children.

James Campbell died in Glasgow in 1800, 
Mrs campbell died in 1815, 
whilst living at Heriot Row,

Edinburgh.
