TOLQUHON CASTLE.
ABERDEENSHIRE. ( A ' Historic Scotland ' site ). Noted for its highly ornamented gatehouse and pleasance, Tolquhon was built for the Forbes family. The early 15th century tower was enlarged between 1584 and 1589 with a large mansion round the courtyard. Open summer (
April - September ), and at weekend in winter. Car parking. Bus parking. Toilets. Reasonable wheelchair access. Disabled toilets. Picnic Area. How to get there:- 15 miles north of Aberdeen, on the A920. Tel:- 44 (0) 1651 851286.
