THE TOWN OFJEDBURGH, in the BORDERS.
JEDBURGH is the last town on the A68 road before you leave Scotland and enter England ( or the first if you are coming the other way ) ! It is a pleasant mix of old and new, and is perhaps best known for its Abbey. Once rich and powerful, the abbey is now a majestic ruin, following the Reformation and repeated assaults by English forces in the 15th and 16th centuries. Mary, Queen of Scots, stayed in Jedburgh for a while and her then house is now a museum, being virtually unaltered since the 16th century, apart from a new roof. Robert Burns also lived in Jedburgh for a time. Well worth a visit ! Some other Scottish Castles |
